Sim racing comparisons

28 head to head pages for the decisions that stall a build. Each one ends with a way to decide in about a minute, and each one names the buyer who should pick the cheaper option.

The four decisions that matter most

The frame. A wheel stand borrows a seat from a chair you already own. A cockpit ties the wheel, the pedals and the seat into one rigid structure so that brake pressure is reacted by your own body weight instead of by the floor. That single difference sets your torque ceiling, your braking consistency and your footprint. Start at wheel stand versus full cockpit, then folding versus fixed once you have decided a cockpit is the answer.

The brake. A potentiometer measures travel, a load cell measures force, and a real brake is a pressure device. This is the change most closely tied to lap time consistency, and it is covered in load cell versus potentiometer pedals.

The drive train. Gear, belt and direct drive differ in what sits between the motor and your hands, and the difference is detail resolution far more than peak strength. The screens. Field of view is set by how much of your vision the display fills, which is why the choice between triples and an ultrawide and between VR and monitors changes both your graphics card budget and your room layout.

The eight decisions that shape a build

These are the structural choices, the ones that decide what the rest of the rig can be. Each page ends with a way to decide in about a minute, and the table names the buyer who should take the less expensive route, which is the part most gear content leaves out. Model by model, once the structure is settled

Wheels and bases. At the entry end, the Hori Apex against a Logitech G29 is really a question about whether force feedback is optional, and the G923 against the G29 is about whether TRUEFORCE is worth the gap. Inside Thrustmaster, the T248 against the T300RS GT trades fittings for feel and the T598 against the T300RS GT is the belt to direct drive step. On the direct drive side, PXN V10 against MOZA R5, the R5 bundle against the R9 V3 base, 9 Nm against 12 Nm, the CSL DD against the GT DD Pro and the RS50 against the G PRO cover the ladder from the cheapest direct drive to the flagship.

Pedals and levers. Once a base is chosen, the brake is where the lap time is: Logitech PRO against RS pedals and MOZA CRP2 against SRP2 are both about how much of a load cell you actually need. Levers are optional and often skipped: H pattern against sequential and shifter against handbrake both start by asking whether the cars you race have a gearstick at all.

Screens, VR and the frame. 27 inch 1440p against 32 inch 4K and 34 inch against 49 inch ultrawide are graphics card decisions as much as screen decisions, and Quest 3 against Quest 3S comes down to how legible a distant apex is through the lenses. For the structure underneath, aluminium profile against a steel cockpit and a desk clamp against a wheel stand decide how much of the force feedback reaches your hands.

Feel, last. Puck shakers against one large shaker and a wind simulator against a bass shaker are both immersion purchases. Neither belongs before a load cell brake and a rigid mount, and the wind simulator in particular adds no information at all.

Two rows in that table are close to unconditional. The load cell row is the one comparison where the more expensive option is usually correct, because pressure braking transfers directly from how a real brake works and it is where amateur lap time is lost. The folding row runs the other way: if the rig has to disappear between sessions, a rig that does not fold is the wrong purchase at any price, because a rig that is a chore to set up gets used twice a month.

The rest depend on what you already own, which is the honest answer and why each page names the buyer rather than the winner.
